My husband just bought me my first one about 4mo. ago. I am so excited, its a 86 with a 4.3, but being a machanicthat is not good enough so he is putting in a 6.0 out of a 04 chevy. We are keeping it stock for now, but anything will run better then what it was.

The G8 ST will be very nice if it is anything like the G8. We thought about trading my 06 malibu for one but we are going to wait for the ST and trade the 02 trailblazer

This site needs a into page. Just a thought

RE: introduction

Welcome Nicole. We just recently added a header, and that I can't even see for some unknown reason. I hope to upgrade the site a little more as more information about the G8 ST comes out. Hopefully that will change.

Pontiac G8 ST (or whatever they are going to call it)

Try the link http://www.pontiac.com/newcars/ Hard to find the page anymore. Yeah the ol' boy is pretty solid, original and complete. I had (well, still have) a '76 growing up. Your rear quarter panels look pretty rust-free. Mine were big chunks of rust on both sides. I did have a lot of trouble with the electrical at one time, had to have it pretty much completely re-wired. It used to flash both brake lights when the turn signal was on and you pushed in the brake, but if the brake was off, the regular turn signal would work. I had to get an expert to figure it out.

RE: Does anybody ever visit this forum????

She looks in pretty good nick.......warren was telling me about the rust problems with them. Flexible brake and fuel hoses replaced, new wheels and tyres and the interior stripped to get the rusted out floor section replaced. I fully understand it is the members who make a forum what it needs to be.

It seems clear the direction this forum is taking is to focus on the "potential" new generation El Camino (Holden Ute), which is great. I feel confident I can contribute Aussie knowledge to the interested members. My personal El Camino interest is on the older models as I have just bought a 75 which needs a bit of TLC to get mobile.

I will visit regularly and contribute where I can. My high school ride was a '76, and to this day my favorite generation is the 4th generation elCamino. Unfortunately, the rust is nothing new when it comes to elCamino's. My '76 has both rear quarter panels almost completely gone, along with rust along the "smugglers" panel in the floor of the pickup bed. That elCamino died on my 10 years ago, but it is now sitting in a barn, waiting for me to get the cash together to get it restored. Unfortunately, for some reason, the 4th generation has virtually no aftermarket quarter panels to buy, so restoring them is very, very expensive.

Welcome to elCaminoforum.com

Welcome and thanks for visiting. There were four versions of the 396 offered that year.

The '69 SS was a Custom El Camino with the Z25 option (called SS 396 option). It included blacked out grill. The center and middle of the tailgate had SS 396 badges. The engine call-outs on the front side marker lamp housings said "Turbo-Jet 396". Also included was a special power dome hood, G70x14 red stripe tires, black out style lower body feature lines, special wheels, suspension upgrades, power disk brakes, wheel openings moldings, and SS tailgate molding previously mentioned. The 396 325hp with chrome accents was standard. The other 396 engines were available for more money.

Now that is just for the SS, of course it was also offered in regular trim as well, with varying engine sizes.

RE: holden ute pics

The 69 looks great. It actually looks like it has some muscle about it. What engines/transmissions were available for the el camino from the factory?

RE: holden ute pics

I wouldn't mind having one of these either, the '59

Funny thing about the '59. When I was in High School, there was an old lady that had one sitting in her back yard. I went and asked her about it, and she was really proud of it. REALLY proud. She said that it was her Husband's car, and it had quit running about 20 years previously. The body was in great shape, but the interior and engine were junk. She wanted $6000 for it. Of course there was no way I could afford that, then getting the thing fixed up. She told me some guy came and wanted to buy it for $2000 and she told the guy "Ill sell that thing to a car crusher before I ever take $2000 for that car".
